Utility Backbone Network
New South Wales
Enabling Direct-Buried Fibre Deployment Across Utility Transmission Infrastructure
Overview
A backbone fibre network for a renewable energy zone in regional New South Wales required a robust, continuous communication layer connecting critical energy assets.
Installed alongside transmission corridors, the environment demanded high mechanical strength, environmental resilience, and alignment with infrastructure authority guidelines. Direct-buried installation further required cable durability and constructability without reliance on ducting or secondary protection systems.
Approach & Outcome
Veyra Fibre supported the deployment by structuring a cable solution aligned to corridor requirements, ensuring suitability for direct burial while maintaining installation efficiency across extended route lengths.
All-dielectric, flame-retardant loose tube cables were selected to deliver mechanical robustness and environmental protection, while retaining flexibility for efficient handling and installation. The construction incorporated layered sheathing, dielectric armouring, and water-blocking elements to provide termite and rodent resistance and ensure long-term reliability in buried conditions.
The solution incorporated:
Dielectric armoured loose tube cables with high mechanical strength designed for direct-buried installation
Flame-retardant, LSZH construction aligned to infrastructure and fire safety requirements
High fibre-count configurations supporting scalable capacity across transmission networks
Water-blocking, rodent-resistant and termite-protected design for long-term environmental protection
Supply on steel drums, enabling controlled payout and handling across extended installation routes
The solution was aligned to relevant infrastructure authority guidelines, ensuring compatibility with corridor installation practices.
